Updates on HR 1 Impacts on Medi-Cal and CalFresh

Last year, the Republican majority in Congress and President Trump enacted H.R. 1 (the One Big Beautiful Bill Act or OBBBA). CalHHS leadership will provide an update on the latest efforts to address the bill’s impacts on safety-net programs in California and highlight recent guidance. The session will also provide an update on the impacts of other federal actions on California and the state’s recent award under the Rural Health Transformation Program.

Governor Newsom makes announcement with former CDC officials

California is bringing on former CDC Director Dr. Susan Monarez and recent CDC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Debra Houry to launch the Public Health Network Innovation Exchange (PHNIX). PHNIX will work to move California and the nation forward despite the CDC’s retreat from science under the Trump administration and strengthen public health innovation, collaboration, and communication at the state, national, and global level.
