Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Conditions Advisory Committee

Committee Information

The Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Conditions Advisory Committee was established within the California Health and Human Services Agency in 1988 to provide ongoing advice and assistance on program needs and priorities of persons impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions and their caregivers. The Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Conditions Advisory Committee members represent consumers, family members, providers, and advocates. They meet quarterly to review current state policies and practices and provide recommendations related to dementia prevention, treatment, and care, as well as support for caregivers. Members of the Committee serve on a voluntary basis.

The Committee is one of six stakeholder groups helping to guide efforts of California’s Master Plan for Aging (MPA), which affirms the priority of the health and well-being of older Californians and people with disabilities, including people with Alzheimer’s and related conditions. The MPA is a “blueprint” for state government, local government, the private sector, and philanthropy to prepare the state for the demographic changes and continue California’s leadership in aging, disability, and equity. The MPA’s five bold goals and twenty-three strategies are designed to build a California for All Ages by 2030. The plan includes specific goals and strategies related to brain health, support for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and caregiver issues. Every two years California commits to new initiatives, demonstrating focus, innovation, and flexibility to meet the needs of California’s older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers.
